My Grief Recovery (Almost 3 Years After 092422)

Friday, July 11, 2025 0 comments

Since my father died in 2022, I realized that the first year truly had been the hardest. I felt that Papix’s absence would've been unbearable had I gone through it alone. Thanks to Owen, Zk and Rn, there were several moments when they kept me alive—in the sense that I still had moments to appreciate life and be in it.

During the second year since his death, I’m not sure if I was already conscious of the “switch” that had been randomly triggered in the previous year. It now gets turned on and off at more controlled intervals. Although once it’s switched on, I cannot stop myself from feeling all the emotions of losing Papa again. Those memories come rushing in like pictures flipping randomly—very fast—but there would be specific ones that appear microsecond-slower than the rest. One of my favorite cards would probably be that snapshot of our Saturday routine breakfast at McDo Bajada when I was still in college. (I tear up as I type these words...) I remember one time when, instead of honey, I poured vinegar on top of my pancakes. The bottles looked almost indistinguishable due to their similar colors, and I immediately got irritated, wondering why they weren’t labeled properly so I could just enjoy my pancakes. But my father offered his pancakes instead so we could move on with our meal, discussing different topics that I deeply miss—his brilliance, the raw and impromptu thoughts about whatever I found interesting to talk about.

Papix, in this moment and in all other moments—not just for me, but for Mama, my sister, and my cou-sisters—was always that person with the highest level of patience. He would even try to be funny whenever possible to make the mood a bit lighter for everyone. Like in my next card—the scene where Papa would drive me on his motorcycle to Babak Wharf so I could attend my college classes in Davao (via pump boat—I wasn’t renting a room yet for a few weeks at that time). He’d be driving, wearing just a sando shirt, while I was in a jacket in the very early 5 a.m. trip from Penaplata, knowing how cold it would be. He would always joke igang” while driving, while I was almost always freezing from the cold wind.

Another similar card comes from my college days a bit later. After a week-long boarding-house stay, I would again ride on Papa’s motorcycle by Saturday from Babak Wharf, finally heading home. One time, it was raining very hard, and Papa gave me his raincoat while he only wore a jacket. We would savor the little punches of rain on our faces, and he would joke in between—making the ride much more enjoyable than what could have been a miserable rainy moment. Imagine—he had just come from a full day of work, teaching Master’s classes on part-time role while taking PhD classes at the same university I attended. Yet he still treated our time together as a good brain break—and a Papa-daughter bonding.

Unlike the first year, my second year was more of a controlled “grief work” I must say. I learned to navigate the phase more effectively—especially now that it’s just three months away from entering another year of Papa-less reality. I’ve come to realize, more conclusively, that a major loss is not something we can say will never happen. It will happen, no matter what—because we all die at some point. But learning how to recover from it, and how to become “grief fit” allows us to make better choices in our current relationships—with the world, with people, and even with time.

My grief recovery—if done visually—looks like color-coded boxes, meticulously labeled and accessed through two-way authentication. The brain provides the code; the heart uses it. It’s not about being insensitive to the nature of grief, but about finding a way to move forward—knowing that Papix would have wanted me to do it my way, with the resilience he modeled for many years: structured, yet deeply felt; organized, but still full of emotions.

Among my color-coded boxes are my Papa's girl memories
that I hope to write about someday.

I missed another Coldplay concert, this time, I cannot 'Fix' my regrets.

Back in 2011, I wrote a blog about how I felt a strong connection with Coldplay after repeatedly watching their Glastonbury Live Concert. I can understand why old and the new generation of fans who watched them live at the Philippine Arena recently, on January 19th & 20th, felt a deep connection with the band, especially with the Xyloband amplifying emotions for every song played during the concert. I always liked how Coldplay deliberately used lights before, with strobe lights, and now, with Xylobands, it just intensifies the mood of the crowd, and I totally missed that experience. The Xyloband was invented because its inventor, Jason Regler, thought "lights will guide you home" and listening to Coldplay always feels like it!

Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin, not only shares my birth month but has provided me a space where I feel I could travel through the "Speed of Sound". Anyone can attest to how he writes and sings from the heart, infusing them with so much passion that you can truly get emotional just hearing their music. As an *obsessed* fan who would always google meaning behind song lyrics, I discovered that "Fix You" was a song he wrote for his then-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, when she lost her father (this song is even more relatable after my father's death, especially the part where "tears stream down your face, when you lose something you cannot replace"). Most probably, being in that arena, feeling a deep connection to this song, could have brought a moment where I might have teared up. And "Yellow", every time it's played, whether in a Glaston show or the recent concert in the Philippines, always brings that surreal moment where you can truly feel it. As always, the entire venue transforms into a sea of yellow whenever they perform this popular hit. Yellow, what I found out years back, is the most challenging color for our eyes to process, but for Chris, "all the things you do, it was called Yellow".

I can still recall how a picture of Chris with his *equality* temp tattoo was my mainstay wallpaper for a long period of time (see picture on the right), reminding me of the band's advocacy. I always considered the other three, Guy, Jonny, and Will (especially Will briefly appearing in GoT was a huge moment for me—think about fandom collision), part of my admiration for sticking with the band after all these years. I mean, with "Viva La Vida," this is where I would truly see them as a band. And I think we can all agree that there's no other song in this world as powerful as when "I used to rule the world" starts playing. The fact that it's written by all members of the band makes it even more significant.

Another Coldplay post in my Facebook when Game of Thrones and Coldplay fandoms collided (Will briefly appeared on the series)

I had been such a fan of Coldplay that I was on a commenting spree on all Coldplay-related pages more than a decade ago, requesting Coldplay to come and play live in the Philippines. It was kind of embarrassing later on that when I would google my name, these posts were returned on the very first page of Google search (I took them down, of course, as I did not want my future employer to realize that the younger version of me—so aggressive or just super fanatic—would be doing the same in the form of chats or emails to co-workers). I also had their elephant's Paradise as my Cover Photo back then. Or calling CM as my *bana* and made a lot of Facebook comments about his *biceps* 😇. I also had my political view in my Facebook profile set to "Am I a part of the cure, Or am I part of the disease?" or how my religious view set something like this, "high up above, or down below".

Chris's Biceps all over my FB logs
Anyway, one of the things I could also recall being a fan was imagining my future daughter named after his firstborn with Gwyn — Apple Blythe (dropping Alison as it's just too long). And a close friend still calls me Blalalithe until now—thanks to Rez (I had asked her to change the spelling to I instead of Y).

I can barely recall the moment Coldplay first took the stage in the Philippines in 2017. After being tagged by so many close people in their posts about Coldplay's upcoming gig at the time—aside from Jared Leto or Benedict Cumberbatch, I am easily associated with Chris Martin to a few closest friends. But I felt like I did not have to attend their concert anymore, and I had probably the same vibes with their recent one at the Philippine Arena (I mean I would have spent good money to be in the show, but apart from having to think about my one-year-old son the whole time I was away, there's no enough motivation anymore). And I certainly know why. Why I missed these two concerts. It's been personal.

Learning about Chris's breakup with Gwyn, knowing that they have two kids, Apple Blythe Alison and Moses Bruce, broke my heart as a follower of the artist for so many years, and "it's such a shame for us to part". The 13-year marriage between Chris and Gwyn had somehow given me a glimpse on how inspiring his relationship was with Gwyn through some of his songs. Even so, I slowly shifted my thoughts away from Chris when he later dated JenLaw and was seen as *different*. The media quoted how she *opened* Chris Martin to a new life. I didn't exactly understand what that meant, "your guess is as good as mine", but everything about how inspirational Chris Martin was seemed to change into something I was not a fan of.

Anyway, I had a full stop listening to their music by the time "A Head Full of Dreams" was being streamed so popularly. It's safe to say that "Mylo Xyloto" was the last album I could relate to. Although I would have defended their change of music, by the time of the full stop, I also stopped rationalizing their new style. It's hard to isolate my personal appreciation for Chris Martin and the band. So when I listened and watched all these video clips from their recent Philippine tour (thanks to Czar for the snippets--ahhhh, "Green Eyes" with envy!), I realized how their music, and not just Chris Martin himself, has been the reason why I loved Coldplay. And I still do love Coldplay.

Probably, I won't ever get another chance ("cursed missed opportunities") to see them live, to feel the energy and all the goosebumps in the same place as they are, especially with the two chances I just missed in the Philippines. But I think I'll be rekindling my appreciation for the band and probably listen to their recent albums.

Thank you, Chris Martin and Coldplay, I still wish to see you live one day and may "God put a smile upon my face". "Viva La Vida" --- Long Live Life!

Forever...

Gamayng yawyaw: To all *biglang fan* out there, it's totally an eyesore that you would caption your TikToks and whatnots with "Cold Play", srsly, just for the views? This "hurts like heaven" (thanks to Roj for the punny take!).

Dear Jxeck Rwen,

Few weeks before you were born, I shared my thoughts about how I felt for Zk ✍️, overwhelmed with a strong sense of loyalty to him as our only son at the time. 👨‍👩‍👧 I still thank Zk for making me a mother 👦, but I'd never imagined that I'd be as grateful as now with you...true, you did not make me a mom, but you certainly made me a better one. 🤱

By (as Zk would call you), we grew a whole other heart just for you--turns out, it's the only thing in this world that cannot be divided into two. 💕 Our love extends to depths that we didn't even know was possible, until we became a family of four. 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦💓

With Zk, I had always looked forward to the future, wondering how I could do better each day. ⏩ You see, your Kuya gave you the gift of going first, because now I know how to mother way better. 🆙 With you, I have learned to lean into motherhood (quit my 10-year job, so I could wfh 👩‍💻 and be a full-time mom 🚼). I have realized that there will be days when I could be just a Mama---not a hero who saves the day, and that’s okay. 🙇‍♀️ Sometimes, saving the world may simply look like putting you both to sleep at the same time (yet I still could not get my longed-for nap)! 🧘‍♀️

You finally made Papa Owen more confident and firm with his parenting decisions and actions, for which I am truly proud of. 👨‍👦‍👦💯 He is indeed your "Papa" as validated by another baby's first word. 🙄

I really wish GP could celebrate this first bday with you...🥹 I am comforted by the thought that at times (which people have noticed), you remind us of him. ❤️‍🩹 You are blessed after all, with the overflowing love and wisdom from Lola Phem and GM. 👵❣️

Rn, the second heart that I grew, has likewise found a strong sense of loyalty just to you. 💘

I love you, with all my heart and mind. 💚❤️

Dear Jzeck Rouy,

I have been wanting to write this ✍️, to let you know how I feel about you these days. Maybe, the following words are coming from a pregnancy-hormone-operated mom 🤰, but I am relieved that I get to express all these thoughts now. 💬

Zeek, in six weeks or so, our home would no longer be just Papa Owen, Mama Glei and Zk. 👨‍👩‍👦 We’ll finally share this world with another human being as soon as we welcome your baby brother 👶 —who would become your future best friend 🤼 and the person who could effortlessly teach you how to be kind, fair, selfless, and to care, although most probably you'd learn all these in a hard way (through sibling wars 💢).

I could not be more excited to watch you grow and take up on this new role 🔓. But with this great feeling 😁 also comes with heavy emotions 😭. I have been slowly processing, capturing, and storing these memories with you 📼…I could not help but accept that our time alone together would soon come to an end. 🥺

I could still remember the first time that I met you 🚼…I was teary-eyed but full of wonder ✨, certainly overwhelmed with so much joy 🥰—staring back at those beautiful eyes, experiencing an entirely different kind of love-at-first-sight moment 💘.  Know that I greeted you instantly with “Happy Birthday” 🎈, I could recall your Papa Owen who was immediately allowed to enter the delivery room moments later, he mouthed his first “I love you” to you 😍. You coming to our lives has certainly given us a different sense of purpose 🧩, a new meaning for existing in this world 🌱, has ultimately inspired us to become better people and parents worthy of your presence 👩‍❤️‍👨.

Fast-forward to this day, you are now four years old 👦. Yes, we have been telling you a lot lately about how time easily goes by ⏩, how fast you have grown these past weeks —looking all so Kuya already ⏫. Part of me wants to spend a little longer with my baby Zkboi ⏯️, for you to experience the solo-child attention a little bit more ⏱️.

But most of me also wants to see the next-phase Zk 👨…I have imagined you transitioning to a responsible, conscious, and even-more-loving person 🙆‍♂️. I could picture you sharing your random I love you’s 🗣️, sweet kisses 💋, warmest hugs 🤗, or demonstrating how you could be extremely garaon to your little brother 😏. But we likewise anticipate that the changes you are about to go through could be at times, hard for you to deal with 🤯…know that we’ll be there to help you understand those feelings 😳, to make the most out of the new experience 🤓, to let you adapt, develop naturally, and move through such phase at your pace. 📈

The past four years have been the best time of our lives 💕, Boi (including the “I-rule-the-world” moments 😤 where we’re surely tested as parents 😵). We’ve been blessed with a time when we could be just randomly or consistently in awe by your existence 😲. And we look forward to expanding this beautiful consciousness with another soul 🔜👨‍👩‍👦‍👦.

While I can’t wait to see what our future would be like in over a month from now 🤔, I want these last few weeks alone with you to slow down—soaking in every Zkboi minute ⏲️ before your little brother arrives 👣. To my firstborn, my smart, kiat Buluntuy, clingy (hope you wouldn't change 👩‍👦) and lovable soon-to-be-Kuya Zk, you will always be the one who made me a mom 🤱, the person who taught me how to be selfless, to show unparalleled patience, to love unconditionally, and to live with so much hope—knowing that one day, we’d see you grow into a much more beautiful human being 🙋‍♂️.

As I dwell on these remaining days with you as our only child ⏰, I would also make sure that you’d share the same excitement to meet your little bro 🍼. While he would never have us all to himself like what you had ☝️, I know he will receive an entirely different and special attention from you 👬. He will have this overflowing love 💞, not just from Papa and Mama, but from his Kuya as well ❣️. He will be the luckiest little bro to have you and us 💖.

Thank you, for being just you, my Zkboi, I love you with all my mind and heart. 💚❤️

P.S. Boi, let's pray that we'd be OK until we finally meet him. 🙏

Core Memories of 2015

Friday, January 1, 2016 0 comments
Yesterday and the 364 days before that The year must have been so good that I could not remember those bad hair days every bad thing that had happened in 2015 was considered part of the entire plan set forth by the universe in 2014. Yes, if I had to rank my years since 2011, 2015---if not the best---is a year of core memories as Joy of Inside Out would gladly gather the happy balls and house them into the hub of my kolorful NCCC Headquarters joined by the rest of personified emotions---Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger.

While the first quarter was mostly spent on convincing people to help me accomplish that not part of their job questionnaire completing my Masters degree requirements, I would specifically not forget my 26th birthday when I had almost celebrated it just like getting through the regular workday…but my family made an effort to render the day extra special with their spontaneous presence just 4 hours away to March 19th.

And yes… finally…after four grueling years as I would normally say back in the high school or college final days a comma and three letters have been appended to my registered domain name, being conferred with a Master of Business Administration degree in April 2015. Academically, that was one full achievement unlocked for years through proper motivation and excellence---which there were no equivalent efforts made from past endeavors. It was quite an attempt to gracefully end what I started in 2011 that it had been a primary root cause for several and big purposeful mistakes and decision errors big career decisions from first resignation to employment hopping applications. Anyhow, all those had paid off well with my family so proud of me and of course, with my sister who likewise graduated with Master of English and Applied Linguistic (MEAL) degree, beating me with one letter for which we entirely dedicated to the true MASTERS of love---our parents.

A year is not as memorable as it is without experiencing plot twists and plot holes lows and challenging circumstances I would never trade for the exact opposite as those served as reference to this year’s another set of challenges. I am somewhat grateful to experience emotional rollercoaster at the workplace for it helped me review my resume that has not been updated for the past 4 years revisit my career goals and assess what truly motivates me to stay in an organization. While the process affected me at various levels, I have been prompted to deliver more valuable results. In fact, the “fear” that was previously felt has been channeled to “excitement”. I am looking forward to a year full of new lessons and knowledge upgrades, ultimately sustaining personal career development I have been taking care of for years.

But 2015 was also an opportunity to take new road---a rare attempt to take new field. However challenging and great it is to achieve, I have conceded to the wishful thinking that it could have played out well in parallel timeline and my decision to discontinue my CPA ambitious hopes was a good decision after all. That was one semester worth keeping which provided me a tip on how to initiate or keep up on a conversation with a CPA holder---that he is.

Meanwhile, the year was of course, fully felt with the presence of best friends, new colleagues, one of them turned out to be so special, the one who would deeply mattersole un-friendship on multiple instances and few acquaintances.

2015 was a moment to experience the most memorable and fun travel with Ilocos escapade and Coron adventure and sweet holiday vacations.

It is the year to encounter new angels giving a glimpse of joy to meet my future angel and witness true love from the weddings of closest friends sending me a strong signal for that only love coming on his way.

Actually, he was not on his way, he arrived perfectly… And that how 2015 ended on a high and happy note. LOVE.

Thank you Lord and the Universe for making time a wonderful instrument to experience Your greatness.

2016, I shall upgrade the hub and store it with brand new set of core memories. J

The Bertrand Zobrist Concept

Monday, September 28, 2015 0 comments
I have finished yet another mindblowing, conspiracy-driven masterpiece of Dan Brown which as expected, has inspired me to write a long blog post addressed to zero audience allowed me to collect my thoughts and revisit the ideas brought about by Peter Joseph’s Zeitgeist. However this time, a new element is added to Joseph’s framework---a concept I have not realized until I had come across Sienna Brooks read Inferno.

While I am proficient at hitting minimum word count entirely doctorate away from a TED talker discussing world’s greatest issues, I would have to admit that at some point in my life, I have asked same set of questions thrown out by the most intellectual individuals on Earth as to how humanity could survive with replicating walkers multiplying consumers depending on limited resources. Yes, we are looking at a common situation here---scarcity. Earth is endlessly catering gatecrashers evidently getting crowded, though in the place where I mostly spend my days and nights, the total man count is trifling. But to give you enough visuals, imagine making your way through the thick crowd in Manila or India metropolis. We are facing largely-dismissed issue of the world today---overpopulation. I would like to take it from the fictional character I wish was non-fictional at all Bertrand Zobrist, Mathematics presents an appalling fact---global population has been on the rise over the century. Statistics shows what people are afraid to recognize…or are we just deliberately ignoring the figures as if those will just downplay on its own?

The story progressed into giving the idea of another apocalypse-themed plot black death in 14th century that claimed at most 200 million lives, as luck would have it setting off the balance in population, which contributed significant effects on human history (most historians noted that the said plague gave way to Renaissance).  Even then, I have reservations that another plague would solve the problem, as people inherently like occupying space. Until I reached the climax of the story, pointing its readers to a probable solution, unexpectedly, Bertrand Zobrist Dan Brown may have just proposed a simple but unsettling answer to the complex question---sterility. In the novel, Zobrist, a genius genetic engineer, masterminded a virus that could modify the human DNA, making it impossible to reproduce, randomly activating the sequence on at least a third of the affected population.

While some of you if the zero audience turned out to be one or two Glayreaders would definitely consider such proposal demented or simply, evil---belying Genesis’s “go forth and multiply”, what I see is the lesser of two evils, that the other evil would be releasing another plague, killing innocent people in the process. Nobody is killing somebody in the lesser evil. It is controlling the numbers, enough to be accommodated by the limited resources.

Though, it is entirely based on fiction and such advancement in technology is not even close to today’s discoveries in genetics field, I am considering the fact that even so I would not be able to reproduce and replicate my awesomeness, if it is the key to humanity’s survival, I am all for it. I am all for preserving humanity. I am all for selfless legacy. I am all for making the most of the given chance to live life as I am allowed to…for there is nothing beyond the time spectrum, but will to continuously set the balance in nature.

And so, that one element added to Zeitgest---fixing human evolution at root level.

The World is NOT a Stage

The more you educate yourself the more you understand where things come from the more obvious things become and you begin to see lies everywhere. You have to know the truth and seek the truth and the truth will set you free. - Jordan Maxwell

I am overwhelmed by the realization that I could be considered a major threat to individuals in positions of higher authority and power—those who prevent society from becoming aware of the astounding truth behind every system. Yes, these elite people do not want anybody to think beyond what is plainly laid out before us. And coincidentally, my blog happens to be about thinking a lot (read my tagline above), which means I could very well be on their blacklist. :))

I watched two baffling documentary films: Zeitgeist and Zeitgeist: Addendum. The first part delves into conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11, religious myths, an inadequate educational system, and economic fallacies. I certainly admit that these topics are quite heavy for a small thinker like me, and I would not necessarily persuade everyone to watch these documentaries unless they are open-minded enough to receive the staggering ideas and concepts presented by Peter Joseph, the mind behind Zeitgeist. Indeed, if you're easily offended, then do NOT watch it! It presents several theological theories that could alarm religious institutions. In fact, they had already disapproved of the documentary’s public release due to its insensitivity toward religious teachings. (However, if you're familiar with Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, Zeitgeist presents similar arguments. In that case, watching the first documentary might not be as shocking. Also, both films have been viewed by over 50 million people worldwide.)

What particularly caught my interest was the conspiracy theory surrounding the 9/11 attack, suggesting that the U.S. government itself may have orchestrated it—or at the very least, ignored intelligence reports from allied countries warning about the planned attack. While I do not fully accept the validity of this theory about the catastrophic event that claimed thousands of lives, I still find it intellectually stimulating to consider. Hence, I leave this one for your judgment. (If you're not interested in the theological theories, you can skip that part and go straight to the next section of the first documentary.)

The second documentary, Zeitgeist: Addendum, serves as an in-depth follow-up. However, this one focuses on the monetary system and how true human progress could be achieved by shifting from our current socioeconomic paradigm to a natural resource-based system. What I found particularly striking was the idea that behind all the intimidating economic figures lies a simple truth: money = debt, and debt = money. This was so compelling that I finally understood the invisible slavery we unknowingly submit to—working endlessly just to earn money, which keeps us trapped in the cycle.

Have you ever wondered how money was created in the first place and what kind of system it operates within? This sequel documentary is a must-watch to comprehend the reality behind what seemingly makes our world go round—money. Admit it or not, we all need it. We strive for it. We survive because of it. But would you believe that, given abundant resources and advancing technology, if we took proper care and management of these, we would eventually realize that money is no longer relevant? The Venus Project, also featured in this documentary, presents an ideal concept of how our natural resources and technology can sustain human development. I support this project because I believe it poses a major threat to the greedy and powerful authorities who view it as the ultimate end of their domination.

Watching these documentaries opened up a whole new perspective for me. However, this does not mean I fully support all of Peter Joseph's ideas. Rather, they have educated me with a different view, allowing me to weigh my thoughts more critically. What truly impacted me was the call for a consolidation of our ideas and knowledge. With the most ideal educational system, we should be learning everything that helps us reach our highest potential—our greatest contribution to human development. (You can start playing your part now by gathering information, thinking a lot, and contemplating deeper.)

Finally, the film emphasizes that love should prevail in each of us, and from that, every good thing will follow.

By the way, Peter Joseph has released a third documentary titled Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, which I have yet to watch. I’ll be sure to share my thoughts on it next time. :)

Our true divinity is in our ability to create. And armed with the understanding of the symbiotic connections of life, while being guided by the emergent nature of reality, there is nothing we cannot do or accomplish. - from the Zeitgeist: Addendum

Unscathed Brain

When I watched Forrest Gump movie, I realized how fortunate those people who know less than I am, who speak innocently, who do things without a doubt, who basically think uncomplicated situations, who need less materialistic things, who ceaselessly hope that one can make a change with a single deed. Blessed they are because they worry less and their wishes do come true because they see no impossibility, and since they believe in everything and they've got true faith, their prayers are answered.

Forrest Gump like I Am Khan movie's lead actor, are individuals who think just simple. Basic. Pure knowledge. "Stupid is as stupid does", they may be slow thinkers but the thought and the course of their actions weigh much greater than the regular stupid does.

This afternoon, I watched another thought-provoking film, Taare Zameen Par (Stars on Earth). It is an Aamir Khan film that features a story of a nine-year old boy who has difficulties in reading and writing but possesses astounding intelligence to perceive the world differently. The movie is such a great inspiration to me that I wonder how is it to think like them, who can perceive another dimension out of the plain view, who can think out of the box.

We tend to think endless and diverse thoughts, who consider practical judgments, who take different options that it has been hard to decide directly, who perceive doubt as an early failsafe for failures and so on and so forth. Though we take our thoughts to have contained more than theirs, in absolute truth, they have the potential to create a new world out of their great imagination. I even more understand that I have barely used  my brain contrast to the default mindset that I thought I have been already overusing it.

From now on, I will try to reach out the implicate order of my thoughts by just thinking for simple and basic thoughts that need not much of deliberation. (How will I be able to take easy ones easily when doing them will actually require strenuous effort?)

I thought leaving was impossible

I learned to love my work, the workplace and some of the employees I worked with, and even learned to care for and love my bosses. Though, several times did I wish before, to work in an entirely different workplace, under a different type of management, I realized that even without having compared with or experienced to work in another workplace, I believe that my first job at VDS, was the best work experience I would have in my life, not that, I am being biased about it but generally, VDS bested my expectations in a workplace where they seriously and literally create a better and different you (they really made a better me...from scratch...) :]

Yes, I initially began working with the slightest idea what to happen in the first few months.. I went through hardships and literally, heart-breaking and confidence-smashing situations that I almost gave up, I was just very glad and proud that my father has always been there to straighten out  every confusion, discouragement and all signs of pessimism I felt every time I encountered difficulties at work, and he's been a good advisor in every decision I made. In truth, my real-IT-life experience for two years was in fact, incomparable to the most challenging experiences I had before, that it felt very rewarding.

So why did I resign? The work schedule would likely conflict to my personal plans to take up master's degree this school opening. But let us say, given with retention offers, I would not want to compromise the company someday having to choose in between my personal and work life. It would be unjust to the company. I would not commit myself into a responsibility I know I could not carry on to the highest extent. I hope though my bosses did understand that.

Now, I am treading a familiar path I have taken two years back, it's like I was trailing full circle but now,  a tangent line is visibly drawn, extending to another road that will lead me beyond the horizon, where lies greater knowledge and broader experience. Thank you VDS... TMS... SYS... I shall return... :)

Logic vs. Reason

I have watched The Matrix a long time ago. It did not occur to me that time that the movie centered on the programmed world of humanity while fueled by bioelectrical energy and body heat from pods of human beings. All I could remember about this movie were the popular matrix moves of waist bending to avoid bullets and slow motion actions of kicking the opponents. And as I watched it again some time last week, I have fully discerned that the trilogy was in fact, a genius movie! Especially that the main subject is related to my field, IT. And of course, they talked a lot of programming.

Further, I realized that it somehow resembled to what I have just learned these days about how everything in this universe imparts as a whole as determined by the great architect of the universe which is religiously likened to God. I even wondered in my previous post titled "Me On Paralleled-Many Worlds", how difficult it is for the universe's programmer part to make sure that every equation encountered is solved and thought about how many branch trees these programs have to decide to get desired results. Have you ever thought about it? That maybe every single breath we take is actually coded bits of ones and zeroes? (If you don't get it, pretend that I am speaking of metaphors here.)

Anyways, I was fascinated how the characters in this movie actually think like they're really humans. They have their subjective views rather than being objective. In which I first thought that they are mostly determined by logical operations than rational ones. Neo who was played by Keanu Reeves, is a good example of a programmed entity that is almost perfect representative of a human who feels emotions, who considers emotions as a mere module that stimulates the program to operate according to the flow of his emotions. It reminds me of my Future Technology subject during my last year in college, when we reached a certain point of discussion on how future machines could actually think like humans. Logic versus reason. And I thought that time, that is entirely impossible. But considering the boost of intellectual minds for the past years, I believe that it is possible for machines in the future to think like humans encoded with all the situations, all emotions, all choices, that even the most difficult woman who always changes clothes just for an occasion can be deliberately designed into a program. Maybe I can bet up to 99% of probability of that to happen when machines become humans. Emotions greatly contribute on how we think. So I think, if our emotions will be studied very well, then we become much predictable. But you know, the 1% counts for a doubt that a human mind can easily call back what he thinks about then he could act against it. No matter how obvious the result would be, it is still up to him to consider the other choice in his mind. But given all the factors that can influence a person to decide for a certain situation, I still favor the possibility. Besides, possibility considers success and failure.

If you have watched IRobot, there is a certain part of that movie that a robot has considered saving the older person from drowning rather than the main character's child daughter, based on the logic that this other person's probability to live is higher than the girl. It was logically right, but by reason especially influenced by emotion, anyone could have saved the girl first. Sadly, the girl died.

Everyday, we get to decide between choices in our lives. Perhaps, you mostly decide by reason but sometimes you have to decide by logic. Either ways, as long as we think whichever of it helps us arrive at our desired results then these ways to decide don't matter at all. But it certainly does matter when we'd invent hu-machines.

Faith

Reading Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol was really an eye-opener. I got to reevaluate myself whether I truly understand faith or I just assumed what was being taught to me since childhood. Indeed, this novel has provided me with spiritual and intellectual realizations about FAITH. I always believe in God, and my faith in God's even stronger now, for I have grasped the nature and importance of the WORD that has been written ages ago, better than what has literally understood by men and women for all these years.

I am not a religious person and I am not quite comfortable blogging about religion but stop right there, faith and religion are entirely different. I am Catholic. Catholic or not, I have FAITH. And I believe in True God.

The cores of these realizations helped me to be more optimistic and realistic. I started to believe in magic, apparently contrast to being realistic, I am not speaking of literal magic here but the magic brought about by forces that convert seemingly impossible things into possibilities. Well, have you heard phrases such as "mind over matter" or "what the mind can conceive, the body can achieve"?. In truth, I would envy people in the future if they'll be able to learn how to use the untapped potential of human mind because few only have understood its true power in the past even up to the present, and no one has still unleashed its extraordinary force. And I adore Rhonda Byrne for having been able to bravingly reveal to the world the greatest secret of all time by writing "The Secret" which was really a thought-provoking book.

So now, will I possess such power just before I become consciously living in an endless void? Certainly, it requires me an amount of preparations and deeper understanding. But I have lots of faith. And intentions.

In The Depths of Fear

Why do I feel fear
Everytime he draws near
Do I lack confidence
When it's just a matter of prudence
Completely unfair

Why do I care
This feeling's just so rare
I am afraid of him
Got me under his skin
Breathe more air

Why do I glare
At this endless dark lair
This is just oh so negative
A force I could not heave
Dread I wear

I want to escape
I want to leave
I want to step down
I want to quit
I am a coward

Me On Paralleled-Many Worlds

Tuesday, June 15, 2010 0 comments
Lately, I've been much into sci-fi things. I am learning new things that I consider both intellectually and emotionally overwhelming and to some point, disturbing, as I live through this existence - my life.

The first time I've realized that I was too innocent about life was when I read "Beyond The Quantum". At first, I believed the semi-facts revealed on this book were totally absurd and inconceivable but somehow, I was able to consider that past, present and future are all happening NOW. They are happening simultaneously, which means that we cannot change the past nor the future since they are immutable just the same as the unchangeable present. So what is TIME exactly? As we understood, it is what makes past as past, present as present and future as future. The difference between future and present and past is what we call TIME.

But if all these happen at the same time, probably, that would mean that while you were about to click the link to my blog, you are also reading my blog entry, and finishing reading my blog, all at the same time. At one point, I understood this theory, it helped explain that destiny really exists. That my future is already written. That my actions in the past, present and future are already set in stone. FATE.

But can we, at the same instant, believe in both FATE and FREE WILL? I have once posted this on FB. What about the times that we'd have to choose in between different choices? What about FREE WILL? Our own volitions? So if the future's fixed thus, it would mean that the result can be determined by our future just while we are choosing in between two things. I guess I am also a believer of "many-worlds interpretation" theory and it might be justified.

ABC's Lost series which I have been an avid fan of, somewhat illustrates the "string" theory in which the characters in the story experienced same situations with different outcomes at different parallel timelines. Many-worlds interpretation is I guess, relates to this theory too. We possibly experience both options though as explained in the theory, happened on different worlds, or another timeline if I interpreted it well. So maybe, if I turned right on this world, on my another world, I turned left.

But as you can see, we all live in a common time frame, what I have become, what happened to everyone on this type of world, timelime, or whatever you call it --- is what we realize, is what we are aware of. This is the world our consciousness recognizes.

Flashforward, a TV series that I am currently being addicted to, also supports the theory of many-worlds interpretation. The story further exemplifies time-travel. And though, I somewhat believe that someday, we can have a peek on our future, I don't agree on the concept that we can actually remember future events back to present. You know, if the future is fixed and we may able to perceive it, that would provide preconception therefore, giving us more FREE WILL, which also means, we can make a choice to make our future mutable. The see-the-future-back-to-present would be a hoax. And it would not constitute the theory anymore. The "fixed future" is disputed. Unless, if it would be executed and presented on different worlds, making it a "fixed one" for each string.

Well, I am just expressing what bothered me a lot lately. Well, I believe in forever. I am present forever. My consciousness is eternal. I may not be residing in this body for limitless time but I am certain, my thoughts represent me in "whenever".

P. S. I wonder how many branch trees the universe allocates for every possible decisions we make. And the bit size it apportions for every output presented on different worlds. I guess, many-worlds interpretation require lots of logical operations and lots of outputs. Damn. Glad, I am not the universe's programmer.

Thinking Vote

Sunday, April 25, 2010 5 comments

Last night, I attended presidential candidate, Mr. Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro's rally at Rizal Park. His partymate, Vice-Presidential candidate, Mr. Edu Manzano, senatorial candidates, Rey Langit and Bebot Bello were also there to win over the people's support for the coming May 10 elections.

Three weeks to go before the final decision of the citizenry will be discerned. And the mudslingings between candidates are getting worse than the previous days, withdrawal of support from different candidates to their partymates shows traditional politics still subsist, and consistent survey results incessantly misinform or influence the people on who should they vote for elections. And I am really, really sad because I'm deeply affected with all these events.

As a first-time voter for presidential elections, I always make sure to have the up-to-date information with regards to the candidates' activities, platforms etc. Information is what the people NEED to acquire so to be more intelligent and careful on who to choose this coming elections. And I am very upset because the TV media which is one of the most effective tools for info dissemination, has been unfair in disseminating the information to the people that often misleads or misdirects the way the people should decide on who to vote.

I am a passive supporter of Mr. Gibo. I am not actively campaigning for him. I just let people around me decide for the right person to vote for. I don't want to influence them, I want them to realize themselves the way they should evaluate a candidate before they'll vote for them. And while I am not actively campaigning for the candidates I have long decided to vote for in the next few weeks, I am somehow actively voicing out my opinions here on my blog and on my twitter, and facebook, where I've also heard some of the witty, desperate, ignorant, and mostly, i-don't-care-who-the-next-president-will-be people. And I've come to realize that only few understand the true essence of having a democratic country.

I say, to choose for the right candidate requires conscience-driven intellect. Decisions influenced not by impulse caused by entropy of bias information, but decisions induced by enough knowledge and moral sense.

When I attended the rally last night, I realized that it's not me who should have been there but the people who thinks oppositely to me,people who need more awareness. Mr. Manzano was right, we should not shout our right candidate's name to the people who already knew that he's the right candidate but to people who HAS STILL A NEED TO KNOW that this person is the right and the most qualified candidate...

So, I'll now leave to you the responsibility on deciding for a smart vote on May 10, 2010. Good luck...

Glad USeP was recognized!

USeP stood out from a crowd of students from different schools when Agnes broke the pattern of silence from the audience.

Yesterday was the ITE Olympiad held at UM Matina. It was participated by renowned schools here in Davao, where all IT, CS and other IT-related course students gathered for a very special occasion. I, Agnes and Regina were among of the students that presented individual/group researches for the afternoon program, the “Student Researches Presentation” together with the other selected students from University of Immaculate Conception, Ateneo de Davao University and University of Philippines-Mindanao Campus.

I was somewhat hesitant to go on with the presentation since I did not have the courage to face a crowd of IT students. But since Sir Val and Sir RSG have encouraged us to grab such great opportunity, the trust and confidence they had for us motivated me a lot a day before the presentation. Their full support was always there which we three, were so much thankful for…

The day of presentation came and I really could not explain myself if I was excited, nervous, afraid or what. But all I wanted that moment was to be in the place where I’ll be going to present. And so we got there and gladly, we came just when the 1st group almost finished their presentation (I and Agnes were scheduled as the last two students to present, Regina was to present on the other venue, UM gym, since there was a need to do parallel sessions to accommodate all the researches being submitted).

Most of the presentations dealt with system and web developments, which I thought that our presentations were really different from them (we did not anticipate that it would turn out the most interesting topics later in that program…hehe My research topic is Technopreneur Blogging: Incorporation of IT Knowledge and Business and Agnes’ Blogging: Comparative Features of Different Blog). Several researches were already introduced but there were still no feedbacks or questions coming from the audience that persuaded Agnes a.ka. “the brave soul” according to Mr. Edwin V. Maranon, Chair of the Computer Studies Division of AdDU who led the program, since she was the first one to speak from the audience after a research is presented, supposedly for the past groups of presenters, an allotted time of 5 minutes are given after the research presentation but it was disregarded since no one from audience had enough courage to ask not until Agnes stood up and ask a question to a group from AdDU whose thesis is about &%#Q%# I forgot the title but the question was what are the advantages of their system or what are its edge over the typical messengers available right now like YM AOL etc. The pretty guy presenter from AdDU was able to answer Agnes’ question anyway. And so from that, there were still no questions raised after the two consecutive feedbacks given by Agnes and I was honestly nervous since I was thinking that the crowd or those groups being asked might throw back questions to us, some kinda revenge or what after Agnes has startled all of them…hehe

But it was an amazing thing that they were able to comprehend that USeP existed in the said forum..hehe When it was our turn to show off our presentations, we both got nervous at first but later we were able to compose ourselves and even got the crowd’s attention since after the presentation, few questions were raised in relation with our topics. It really turned out that our topics appealed to the audience. Interesting issues were tackled like the Disabled Adsense Accounts (improper way of advertising), how to increase page traffic and so on and so forth.

We were so glad that Sir RSG was there to witness the presentation and he was himself happy of the outcome of it. A big CONGRAT’S to my colleagues, Agnes and Regina and for all the presenters of the said event… It was really fortunate for us to be in there representing our institution and to learn different ideas from other students from different schools.

>>A feedback to the said event…

We are hoping that by next time there would be no more snacks so to cheapen the entrance fee, anyway, the common purpose why the students were there, was not about the snacks they’d eat but the ideas that would feed their minds. After all the snacks were served just right after the show ended…well…!@#$#%!

I think, therefore I exist…

glaiyzexistence.blogspot.com… have you wondered why my domain name is glaiyzexistence and not informaxona?

Well, it is because before, my blog’s name was I Exist… (just for your information) It was to tell the whole world that someone named glaiyze exists, and since it would be hassle to inform everyone that I am going to change my domain name into informaxona after I created my current title, I decided that maybe I will retain it for the meantime and change it later to informaxona.com when I will be acquiring my own domain already.

Now, the title’s brief history was because I am very curious about my existence… I do randomly ask questions like why I exist, what’s the purpose of my existence and the likes… Maybe just to kill the boredom temporarily, I am wondering for all those mysteries…

And since I am aware of these thoughts, these perceptions and things like what I am supposed to do next, I am very much certain that I exist… Maybe without my body, without anyone able to touch me, I still believe that I am existing, it since I am thinking… I am being responsive with everything and my consciousness tells me that I am real even without my flesh… My existence is all about my thoughts, my speaking mind, and my out-of-the-way perceptions… I exist because I think I do…well, I strongly believe and aware that I do…

No, Thank You Tech

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 2 comments
Technology has brought significant events in our lives whether we acknowledge it or not. Some people who were able to perceive the existence of technology, still prefer to live with the strong idea not to praise its existence but rather believe that technology brings no good to the society, these people are called technophobic. They are the ones who are afraid to embrace the rhetoric of the future. However, the great opposite of these people are the so-called technomanic, who embrace technology as already part of their lives.

Now whether, there exists two opposite people in our information age, the main concern is how these two connect and represent the present humanity in this ever-evolving tech-world. I have to say that even I strongly believe that I fall under category two, I still fear what the future stores for us especially for the ones that create them, humans. Technology have brought significant changes in our lifestyle from waking up in the morning until we found ourselves late at night dreaming with technologies still involved even in our very unconsciousness. Its impact has something to be concerned or disregarded of. It is up to us what the better option to choose from is.

Personally, I consider myself lucky since I was able to witness the transition in the technology developments since my early primary years in elementary wherein I was still the only pupil in the class who has a computer and knew the existence of it, up to now, wherein I could definitely prove to everyone that there was a great transition from the late 1990s to the present. Today, almost everyone recognizes the existence of these computers, even my cousin as early as two years old, she can turn on the power of my laptop without being instructed on how to, she is just definitely being observant of the things she was able to see and understand at her very early age. Though she doesn’t know about the computers but having been able to see right through her eyes the presence of it, undoubtedly, she would never be innocent when it comes to these things in the future.

The great technology evolution is very obvious to each of us especially for those who were able to understand and observe its pattern. We all know that as technology has continuously developed, human’s actions too are consistently changing. His habits, attitudes and daily routines have transformed to complement with his environment. I am not saying that humans are getting worse as days went by but it is to admit that with technology, attitudes and routines change to go along with the trend, for example, if you miss your loved ones, you don’t have to see them in person, just a call or a text sent to them is already a good way to alleviate the feeling.

Along with this, human values too are slowly changing. Though principles and moralities are still preserved, it is the humans that slowly destroying the instilled moral values in them. Just like for example, lying has never been so easy in texting… Everyone knows that a lie in text does not to be considered a very bad and heavy sin at all since it is done on a technology tool God has never mentioned before. Humans have forgotten that sins do not merely depend on the tools or things you use but it is on how you use and act with them.

Morality issue has been the very core subject about the impacts brought in part of the intervention of technology. However, let me also see the other obvious matter that relates to technology, the substantial and materialistic contribution it has supplied in our society. Electrical light bulb, has everyone be so thankful that they were invented by Edison? How about everyone of us sulk all night with candles or what if even candles were never made, will we all be depending on the light coming from fires? The invention of light has been so significant in our society (well, not that noteworthy for blind men).

How about the invention of automobiles? Have you imagined yourself going around the city by walking? Automobiles are indeed a very helpful transportation. Its impact to the society is best felt if one day, there is a real transportation hike. Next, the cameras… Maybe, these things are not that significant to the whole humanity but have you realized if cameras did not take into place? Maybe, our minds are the best storage for our memories nowadays. One has to be sure to have no memory gaps. What if no one has discovered radio waves and with that, telephones, televisions, cellphones etc. never existed? Well, maybe to convey my message to my parents that I arrived on my apartment just in time will be through people and that would take days for them to know that. Eventually, I would not be able to big difference with that from what the advantage I have now when I was not able to know what are cellphones at all. Thanks to Hertz, he discovered radio waves. Marconi’s antenna and wireless telegraph have been so useful guides for today’s generation in creating wireless mobile, wireless internet and soon will make everything wireless. Have you considered that maybe until now, without him even if telephones are invented, we use them at home or workplace only? Well, not so bad to consider anyway. It is still better than that with no communication means at all. Refrigerators are hazardous to our environment, it emits chemicals that destroy our ozone layer but still, I am partly grateful that it was invented, I have this great indulgence with ice creams. Have you been thankful to be effectively informed through television? Well, I could still rely on newspapers even without its existence.

In the medicine field, I have been thankful that insulin was discovered to treat diabetic person like me. Though I am still not on the stage of being treated with it but I somehow acknowledge that technology has discovered it. How about the discovery on RNA and DNA by Franklin, DNA testing has been so helpful to humans. Without it, I may not able to know someday that I might be one of the Holy Grail’s descendants. But of course, I was not being serious, I just wanted to imply that DNA has been a very successful discovery in the field of medicine. The test tube baby, this has been an answered prayer for couples who cannot bear child. Indeed, test tube baby is an alternative choice for same sex marriage couples to protect their rights to build and rear a family.

Finally, the two most significant events for me that took into place were the invention of computers and the creation of the World Wide Web. I am so grateful for University of Pennsylvania for developing ENIAC computers from which computers today were inherited from. Computers are great technology tools that help make our lives a lot easier. Especially when communication protocol was introduced in 1980 which led to the creation of Internet, it has been the start of the great phenomenal innovation in entire human’s lives. Computers and internet have provided extensive benefits that humans cannot afford. Nowadays, their implications are kept and carried on for it is from them we see the other side of our lives which speaks for convenience and practicality.

Though I had mentioned a few nice things and “just things” above, you must remember that whether you are thankful or not that they were invented and discovered, still, it is human’s brilliant works and minds you must be concerned about. If you hate technology, then hate the one who create them and ask why he invented it if he will just make you mad. Remember that technology is not our enemy if one day, something is not going right, it is ourselves that must take care of that blame someday. The ones who create them are the ones who will destroy them. In other words, he who creates such new technology should also know what are its implications otherwise, he should not invent them.

Its impact to our society is due to the extensive application and attention we put on them. Technophobic and technomanic, at the end, have nothing to do with how they embrace technology. They will be just the same people in the same society. There will be no more distinctions between the two. The focal point is, the humanity will be accountable for whatever impact has brought by technology. Technology has technically no impact if the humans are dense, it is like they do not react in any sense. Impact has something to deal with responses. Thus, it is possible that if humans will create just enough responses, this will provide with the fact that technology’s impact then will also be just enough. Along with this statement, humans must know how to handle technology and certainly how to act in response to its great implications. Just like if new innovations are being introduced, he should be able to know how to properly deal with them.

Fear of the Future

Sunday, November 30, 2008 3 comments
I was asked by our professor if I am afraid of the future, in terms of the emergent and developing machines that would take place in the future… I answered him “medyo”… and I knew deep inside me that I really am afraid…

I was being honest… I am afraid that in the future, technologies’ impact to the people will make them less-ethical people. Values and ethics as well as, real identities will be easily waned and faked out. Even today, fake emotions such as typing “huhu” in text doesn’t even mean real at all… Recreating ourselves in cyberspace will never be a hard time for us… we can have certain multiple identities and personalities at the same time as long as the ones we’re faking on don’t see us face-to-face. And what if everything is done in cyberspace… personal touch and social interactions are no more practiced in the future…? I am afraid that the daily routine we’ve got at home, bonding and quality time with my family will be done on cyberspace already… even dinner with them will be no longer a significant family daily affair… and that we’ll only be taking pills and tablets good for 3 meals a day… I can’t barely imagine them happening in real… I really don’t want such things will occur… hopefully not…while I’m still alive…

I believe that as long as technologies are created and moral values are concerned, technologies remain tools… tools that have their own significant purposes why they were created…and that they must be used in the way they should be…

I remembered from my programming days that Ma’am Maui told us that we could never have miracles in programs… that prayers will never help us in solving difficult machine problems… now, I realized that this somehow really applies… technologies are things that we could not lay our faith on them… Somehow, I understand now that there are some who say that God doesn’t know everything about these tools, He doesn’t exist on them at all.. I even once imagined someone saying “mayg kabalo ang Ginoo ani ako ginabuhat nga wala man siya kabalo ani nga butanga, even unsaon pagpaandar ani”… from that I realized, our faith in God and His existence are seen through our actions… this is not about new tools God doesn’t know about… it’s about how we act and how we recognize good from evil… God and His existence…and our faith in Him are our guide and reasons why prefer not to do the opposite things…the bad ones… coz we know from the beginning of our consciousness that they are against God’s will… recognizing Him in everything we do puts us in better place…and so this applies in technology, for as long as we recognize that lying in online chats is bad at all, and to prefer not to say “huhu” when we really are hurt, sending them a blank message instead, keeps us away from displaying fake emotions making us unpretentious… These simple bad things are against His will and this should guide us in using technology… to see and be not afraid of what the future had stored for us is to preserve the good values we have and learned in the past… this will lead us on the right track…

I strongly believe that as long as values hold humanity as I’ve mentioned in the previous entry, there’s nothing to be worried about… Boundaries between good and evil will always be held and abutted… now, I am afraid not to fear of the future…=)

attitude does…

These were the thoughts that Sir RSG highlighted yesterday. Together with the rest of the class, we had done something that really made him mad, transforming our future technology class (which should have been a discussion about future technologies) into a personal discussion about our own FUTURE. Although we were able to finish two units of lessons yesterday, there were still 3 remaining units that we were not able to cover because of the "personal forum."

We were scheduled to report our future technology topics after the two-week long break, which gave us enough preparation time. Everyone was expected to deliver their presentations well and everything, from the venue to the presentation itself, would have already been set up. Unfortunately, nobody had anticipated that a single action would later ruin the entire meeting, proving once again that we truly hadn't changed since (if only I had powers so I could have saved everyone that day). We were just the same students Sir RSG had always known, having the same attitude.

Yesterday morning, we were informed that our 9-5 pm class would be shortened to 1-5 pm since Sir RSG had an unexpected appointment. I was partially glad but mostly disappointed. I was glad because it would give me enough time to prepare, as I had very low confidence in how my presentation would go. However, I was disappointed because I had woken up early, leaving home from Samal at 6:30 am just to arrive at school on time (there's no guarantee that I would make it to school on time, considering the uncertain travel situation via Babak). Besides, I hate being late, which meant I couldn't be late myself.

As soon as I was informed about the new schedule, I went straight to our apartment to rest, and by 12 nn, I went to school, not anticipating that being an hour early for class could actually save everyone, had I known about the challenge we were about to face later.

By 1 pm, Sir RSG was already in class with us, although some classmates were missing (again, latecomers), and scenes were about to unfold.

It all started when everyone was queuing up to connect their USB drives to the device where the LCD projector was connected. We were approximately 40 students in the Future Tech class, all of whom were expected to have a copy of their presentations on the device so that when it was our turn to present, the file would be readily available. This meant that one USB after another would be inserted into the device until everyone was done. Perhaps you can imagine the scenario now.

It was taking forever, and watching everyone, I got impatient. I could only imagine Sir's thoughts at that time. Everything felt like it was in slow motion.

Eventually, Sir RSG had to say something, and we all looked like children being scolded (which we deserved).

True, it was all about attitude, our attitude. We hadn't changed. I know for myself that I hadn't made much effort to improve.

Sir RSG asked us how we got to that point, how we came to bear such an attitude. I quietly answered that I chose to be at that point. However, there could be other factors affecting my attitude: the environment, the trends in society's values, the family who raised me, my perception that developed over time on what is good and what is not good. We shape our actions, we develop our attitude, and I am truly guilty about what I showed yesterday. That was not my best attitude.

I reflected on my actions yesterday. I could have used the time more effectively. Or I could have reacted better to the situation and come up with a solution.

But it's done; it already happened. I may have regrets, but they also come with lessons.

Even though our class turned out to be a personal discussion, Sir RSG somehow managed to discuss future tech. He talked about cyberpunks, AI, and how they could further challenge our morals. My thoughts went as far as how humanity is held together by our ethics and beliefs, and if these are replaced by technology, we would eventually be broken and go back to square one.

Anyway, let me leave you with this thought: Intelligence may pave the path to success, but it is one's attitude that ensures they stay on that path.

Virtual Crime

Wednesday, August 13, 2008 1 comments
I actually belong to the virtual community and I sometimes worry about the exposure of my identity. I have read an article featured in Sunstar before that identity theft online is prevalent nowadays. Undeniably, we sometimes reveal information we thought not that significant or useful for others or maybe we thought that there are no risks in revealing these information anyway.

Just try to imagine this, those little pixels in the monitor screen are converted into hundreds or maybe thousands of virtual eyes viewing or watching over you every now and then from any point in the globe. Later, you’ll find out that you already have a virtual stalker tracking you from time to time. Or even worse, your identity has just been stolen by someone else and used this information against you.

Well, online social networking is indeed fun. You meet new friends, connect distant people and share knowledge with the virtual crowd but then it couldn’t always be denied that there are just some people whose job is to do things in the opposite way making our world balance. With this, let’s just have to be intelligently balanced as well by outdoing these evildoers. We have to ensure that the information we reveal must not disclose important personal details that might be useful or beneficial for others like complete address, bank account numbers, etc. or even pictures that could be used by someone mischievously. Remember that virtual crime may be the toughest mystery to solve where every virtual entity in the virtual community is a suspect. Worst, tracking of that particular person is done online, which means “offline” would save him from being caught.

This entry is actually a review on “Think before You Click” reported by Ms. Giesi Mae L. Gorgonio in Assignment 1, CS Research Methods subject.
